How To Estimate Your Project
- Gather your info
- Slope Angle 📐 - Measure the steepness of your slope
- Width ↔️ - Measure the horizontal distance across your slope
- Length ↕️ - Measure the vertical distance from top to bottom of your slope (Remember, measurements should be treated separately for each project area):
- Open the "Dirt Locker® Terraced Rows Calculator"
- Input your measurements
- Choose your options
- Color 🎨 and J hooks type
That's all!
Once you input your measurements into the calculator, you'll see your exact project requirements and pricing.
Please remember... All calculations provide estimates based on your measurements and some variability may apply.
How do I measure my slope angle?
Click here to learn how to get your slope degree
- Use your smartphone: "Measure" App for iphone or "Bubble" app for Android
- Select "level" feature
- Lay a 2x4 vertically along your slope
- Place your smartphone in the center (laying flat) to get slope degrees, be sure to level it out to 0° first.
- Test this method in multiple areas
- Watch video above for example

- Use a 4ft level and a measuring tape
- Hold the level perpendicular to the slope in the middle of your hill
- With a measuring tape, measure the distance from the bottom corner of the level to the ground, that is your rise.
- Divide the rise by the run (4ft level)
- ex: 2ft/4ft=.5 ratio or 4ft/4ft=1
- Whether you measure in inches or feet, always keep your measuring units consistent
How do I figure out my project area?
Slope length: Start 1-3 feet below the top ridgeline. Measure vertically down to where you want the front of your last Dirt Locker row to end.
Slope width: Measure from the left side of your hill to the right side. You can measure the entire width, or designate a section to terrace as you can add on later.
Total Area: In the case for needing the Mini Dirt Lockers, use a measuring tape to measure your slope length in feet (top to bottom) and slope width in feet (left to right). Multiply LxW to get total area or SQFT.
How to use the calculator feature?
-Use calculator 1 for most project types ranging from 10°-45°. Be sure to see step 3 of your estimate results for set up design requirements. Download for reference.
-Use calculator 2 for Dirt Locker Minis Dirt Lockers to be used on narrow or distinctively shaped project areas.
-Use calculator 3 to create rings for planting trees, individual large plants, or groups of small plants.
